Plant Sale & Attic Treasures just around the corner...

posted May 9, 2011 7:41 AM by Friendly Garden Club of Beverly   [ updated May 9, 2011 7:47 AM ]

Ohhh, how beautifully the gardens are unfolding already and the beautiful warmer weather is lifting the spirits! As you survey your garden, take note of the nooks and crannies that may need a little "something-something" and mark your calendar for Saturday, June 4th from 9 until noon (or, when we typically sell out around 10 a.m.!). We'll be at the Cove Community Center this year.

The club again will be selling perennials and other treasures as a club fundraiser, and as a sort of community service to give the public access to plants that do really well here in Beverly at some of the best prices around.

You'll find a wonderful assortment of Hosta, Daylily, Iris, Columbine, Ferns, Herbs (Mint, Oregano, Lemon Balm), pre-planted troughs with hens-n-chicks and assorted mosses, and much, much more!

April Fool's! More snow... enough already?! Let's get back outdoors.

posted Apr 4, 2011 11:06 AM by Friendly Garden Club of Beverly   [ updated Apr 4, 2011 12:40 PM ]

Let's hope that April Fool's storm was the last of it! At this rate, even the tiger lilies should be nervous!

Now that Spring is here, the Friendly Garden Club really starts to get busy, so here are just a listing of some places we may be seeing you:
  • April Meeting at the Library learning more about Tea - join us! Wear your hat and gloves, if you wish.
  • May Civic duties including clean up of Library, Abbott Street Beach, City Hall planters, etc...
  • Our own "in house" Flower Show on May 17th at the Library - come see what our membership creates!
  • "Best of Beverly" is just around the corner - you can start planning, then check back here for categories and entry info
  • Plant Sale and Attic Treasures - coming the first weekend in June - more details to come.

And, for something new in the forecast -- Snow.

Seems like there has been a "storm of the week" for each of the past few weeks, with another slated for this Tuesday/Wednesday. The snowbanks are so tall and packed, one has to wonder if the bulbs will ever manage to poked their heads thru!

We're so sorry to have missed the Janaury meeting due to the storm, but hoping for better luck in February when our meeting will be held at the Beverly Historical Society.

Please use your best judgement concerning the weather; we will try to post any cancelations here, but often don't decide until we see what the storm has in store.

Hope to see you soon.

Your Boxwoods may not be safe...

posted Nov 17, 2010 6:38 AM by Friendly Garden Club of Beverly

Now that more than 40 of us completed our Boxwood Trees under Robert's direction, we may all have the hankering to do some more - be careful if a Friendly club member offers to "trim" your Boxwood for you -- these gorgeous trees take quite a bit of greens!

Join Us for Our Open Meeting - NOVEMBER 30th!

Can't believe I'm typing this, but, "The holidays are coming up!"

Mark your calendars now, and see a Friendly member of the club to purchase an advance ticket ($8) to this year's exceptional program featuring local favorite Bill Graham. BALSAMS and BLING is going to be an entertaining evening full of fresh floral arrangements and jewelry and accessories to add more "bling" to our holidays. Bill is known for his storytelling, humorous observations, and commentary throughout the program.

Additionally, the club will be serving up numerous treats in the refreshment line, offering freshly made greens baskets and wreaths at some of the best prices around, and featuring a boutique table of unique and handmade gifts that will give you a jump-start on your holiday gift list. The evening will also feature a door prize (just drop your ticket in the bowl on your way in) and a number of interesting and fun raffles.

We hope you'll take a moment to find your favorite club member to get your advance ticket, but, if you can't do so in advance, we'll save a few extra tickets at the door ($10).

Last night, the club met at a member's home to enjoy some pizza and good company and receive this year's PROGRAM. It's chock-full of hands-on (and tasty) programs! We hope you will join us.

Also, a note that the Beverly Recreation 2010 Fall Seasonal Program Brochure has been mailed. FGCoB friend, Betsy Williams, has three (3) very interesting programs! Check them out at www.bevrec.com.
